Graduation Project
This project began with my fascination for the Devanagari typeface. I was captivated by its beautiful letter forms and saw potential for creating stunning patterns. Experimenting with different compositions and tools, I explored the movement of strokes and tried various techniques to illustrate them.
As I honed in on compositions I found compelling, I envisioned turning this passion project into a surface design brand. I chose to carve motifs onto wooden blocks and rubber mats to create stamps, allowing me to print these patterns onto versatile textiles like shawls, dupattas, and saris.
I named the brand Chari, meaning 'a girl madly in love,' to reflect my deep affection for typography. To add a personal touch, I carried out a photoshoot using my grandfather's vintage film camera. The shoot captured the essence of joy and creativity as my friends modelled the garments.
This project has been incredibly fulfilling, driven by my love for design and typography. It's been truly an exciting journey, and I'm proud to say, I have created something that truly represents me and my passion.
